Expedition to the Externstones

Beitrag von Hamsta » 03.11.2006, 15:39

After reading about the externstones in this thread on the DRC Site Forums a group of 13 explorers from this community took it upon themselves to travel to that mysterious age. After some modifications to the image-function of your KIs ;) we gathered for our expedition to discover the secrets of those ancient runes and to see if maybe there's a linking book to be found on that pedestal after all...?

Below are the pictures that bear witness to our exploration. Click on any image for a larger view but be aware: they may be up to 1 MB in size!

On the link-in-spot we were greeted by this dragon... luckily it was only made of wood.

Of we went, looking for those large, freestanding rocks we read about,
Bild

only to find normal rocks in the woods,
Bild

not standing free at all...
Bild

but none the less interesting:

High up on the cliffs,
Bild

we enjoyed the view,

of the autumn forest below us:

And also of the woods

and old trees

all around us:

Some familiar views,

of a game we all played ;)

We even had the luck to observe two of the inhabitants of the age:

One of which was quite the active little fellow:

Whilst the other one didn't seem to take much notice of us:

But we were looking for something else...

And while our search took us up
Bild

and down
Bild

and up
Bild

and down...
Bild

we were sure to find our way to the stones
Bild

and as we got closer,
Bild

and closer,
Bild

and closer...
Bild

we found our first runes, which showed us we were on the right track:

And there they were,
Bild

Bild

the Externstones:
Bild

From far away we already suspected that our final destination should lie high up on the rocks...
Bild

Bild

So we approached the mysterious bridge...

And at last, high upon this rock, the mysteriuous runes and pedestal...
Bild

empty :-(
Bild

Crestfallen from the lack of a new linking book, the main part of our photographers took it upon themselves to document the only really cool looking artefact, the bridge leading upon our rock:

While the other explorers,

high upon the other rocks,

even found a prison...

Closing this little report of our expedition, the only thing left for me to say is:
"The gathered

are known
Bild

by their faces

of stone."

Great =) Thank you, I really enjoyed that short trip through this rainy age. Reactivating my memories (and putting them in a new order *gg*).

Thank you!

Thank you for the report, Hamsta.
I am still sad that I could not go.
Great pictures.
