Greetings. The following statement has been added for informative purposes.
By using this "hack" you are modifying your game. Your avatars "vault" file is also modified by doing this. It is possible that you will corrupt your avatars "vault" or your game in a much more general sense. By deleting files -- or even moving them -- in order to access portions of the game that have not been made available, you are in violation of your EULA (End User License Agreement).
Section 3 of the EULA:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not permitted namely:
- To make copies of the Multimedia Product,
. . .
- To modify the Multimedia Product or create any derived work
. . .
- To create or distribute unauthorized levels and/or scenarios,
- To decompile, reverse engineer or disassemble the Multimedia Product.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By using the hack listed below, you are arguably disassembling the game. You are definitely creating unauthorized levels and scenarios -- and by propogating this post distributing them. Even though they already exist within the game, they have not been authorized for offline play.
You are also modifying the game -- albeit that line specifically covers distribution, it does include any modification of the game and by using and distributing this game modification it could be considered provision of a derived work.
Section 4 Termination of License:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The License is effective from the first time the Multimedia Product is used.
It is terminated automatically by Cyan without notice if the User fails to adhere to the terms and conditions of the License.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This means by using this hack your license with Cyan is unofficially terminated. This means your support agreement is terminated. This means Cyan and UbiSoft no longer have any requirements to support you if something goes wrong with your game.
Section 5 Liability:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In no event can Cyan and its licensees be held liable for any direct, consequential, accidental, special, ancillary or other damages arising out of the use or inability to use the Multimedia Product, as well as out of the ownership or poor functioning thereof, even if Cyan and/or its licensees has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
In particular, Cyan and its licensees accepts no liability regarding use of the Multimedia Product contrary to the precautions for use set out in the manual and on the packaging
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If by doing this hack, you mess up your computer (delete the wrong files). Or just flat out mess up your game. You can not hold Cyan liable.
This is actually one of the shortest EULA's I've ever read. You can access it and read it under EULA.txt located in the directory where the game was installed. I recommend taking the time to look it over, as I did not quote all of it here.
Anyway, you have been warned. Onwards with the original message.
[/EDIT]
From an original post somewhere here. Apologies to the original author not known.
DO NOT DO THIS AS THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR AND I ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR A COURUPTED GAME.
IMPORTANT: Do not do any updates, as the updates now incorporate a checksum to stop you from doing the following.
Post Follows
***********************************************
1) They finish the game COMPLETELY. They must have already acquired several game components for this to work.
3) Each and every time they finish playing, they must restore all of the deleted files. If they use their computer for other programs,
they run the risk of those files being overwritten, corrupting them.
4) They empty their recycle bin before starting by double-clicking the recycle bin icon and either deleting or restoring them, leaving
the bin empty.
5) For you experienced people: yes, I know that there are other ways of handling this, like renaming files, opening new folders, etc.
Please don't go complicating things by advising people to attempt the more complicated way of doing this, it leaves them staring
blankly at the screen and going "Wha???". I am going for simplicity here, so novices can be aware of what is going on, and beware!
.....HERE'S HOW THEY DO IT....
They:
Empty the Recycle Bin;
Click START;
Click MY COMPUTER;
Click SEARCH (magnifying glass);
Click ALL FILES AND FOLDERS;
In the box they type .PRP;
Click SEARCH box;
YES FINISHED SEARCHING
Click on the file City_District_GreatStair
DELETE THIS FILE
Insert the game disc, and play the corrupted game! They go to their Relto, open the brown book (seventh from the left), open it to the
page that shows the rooftop workshop, and click on it!
The poor mutilated computer unknowingly sends them to the ferry terminal in the city!
Once there, they instantly go to the linking book on the nearby island and click on the KI button, then the book. This sends them to
the Nexus, a centralised linking machine that contains many linking books. They stand in front of the screen and switch to the distant
view (F1), and click on the KI slot.
When the screen appears, they click on the top entry that says (YOUR NAME) NEIGHBOURHOOD, then the lit star.
The Nexus produces a linking book, and they touch the page, whisking away to their own assigned neighbourhood, an
area they should only get to online! They have the gall to explore this area, entering the private rooms (the "egg" room),
the classroom, then they actually enter the linking room and stand before the book there. They touch the KI button, then
the book, and when they go back to the Nexus they don't use the machine, they just use their Relto book and stand there, leering at their bookcase!
Would you believe it, they don't even pause to use them, they just exit the game!
What they do next is even worse. They set about gaining entry intoall kinds of places in their own game where they don't even belong!
They hit START, MY COMPUTER, SEARCH, ALL FILES AND FOLDERS, they enter .PRP, SEARCH, YES FINISHED SEARCHING.
Then they click on City_District_Ferry, ten DELETE THIS FILE, and confirm it by clicking YES. They then go down the list to the
neighbourhood files, where they delete Neighbourhood_District_Classr, Neighbourhood_District_nb01, and Neighbourhood_District_Private.
Then they click on the red X in the upper right to exit, and start the altered game again!
In their own Relto they open the new Nexus book, the ninth one on the right, with the gear on the cover. When they click on the picture,
they actually go to the Nexus! They stand before the screen and hit the KI button, and when the screen appears they click on FERRY
TERMINAL and the star, then the book that appears. But they wind up in the concert hall foyer! Once there they go right to the bookstand,
click on the KI, and the book. They don't even stop to look around!
Back at the Nexus, they open the screen and click on their neighbourhood, then the star and magically appearing book, and they wind up
in the common room, that mysterious blue hallway they spent so many hours trying to get into!
After exploring it, they exit the game and again go to the .PRP files, this time deleting City_District_Canyon, Neighbourhood_District_BuiltIn,
and Neighbourhood_District_Comm.
They exit, then they double-click the recycle bin, there they click on Neighbourhood_District_Classr, then RESTORE THIS ITEM.
Then they exit and restart the game.
Using the Nexus book, they go to the machine, click Ferry Terminal and the start, then the new linking book. This time they wind up
in Dakotah Alley, instantly going to the linking book and clicking on the KI button. Turning left, they climb the stairs and cross the
courtyard, finding the wide "up" stairs blocked by the barricades. Standing on the very right side, they hold down the RUN button,
jumping repeatedly until they clear the obstruction. Going up the Palace stairs, they see a new book and click onthe KI, then the book,
going back to the Nexus. Once there, they click on their neighbourhood, the star, and the new book, winding up in the classroom, seeing
a scrap of D'Ni paper they
are NOT entitled to see!
Again they exit the game, going to the .PRP files and deleting City-District_KadishGallery, and City_District_Courtyard.
They exit and restart the game, this time going to the Nexus and clicking on the ferry terminal brings them to the Kahlo Pub!
The floor is unstable, so they have to hold down the RUN key as they rematerialise, the curs!
They happily rummage the place, then they exit the game, going back to the precious .PRP files and deleting City_District_KahloPub
and City_DIstrict_KahloPubTunnel.
Restarting the game, they go back to the Nexus, this time the ferry terminal setting sends them to the Library! They don't even glance
about, they go to the left, begin the DRC tent, clicking on the KI button and the book. Shameless! They know they'll be back!
Now they delete another file, namely City_District_Library and when they restart, this time the Nexus, star, book combination sends
them inside the Library! They poke around, exploring, then they exit the game.
Now they go the te files and delete City_District_LibraryInterior and restart, this time the poor Nexus send them into the museum,
which they ransack!
Then they exit the game, and open the recycle bin, where they click RESTORE ALL ITEMS!
They exit, only to go into the files again, deleting City-District_Builtin and Neighbourhood_District_Builting.
Now they are free to explore the entire city and neighbourhood, almost as if they were online!
Imagine that! They get to play with the telescope, beach ball, glowing lights, find the Relto pages that add a dock and islands, find
the linking stone that goes to the top of the pyramid!
But pity the poor things, they are all alone, without the wonderful interactive slow motion of the online game!
And just think, whenever they want to play this advanced version of the game, they have to delete those last two files, and restore
them when they're done playing!
Well, it serves them right, after all, they only paid for this game, and they are sort of entitled to use it!
So now everyboy be on guard, and DONT DO THIS!!
************************************************
End POST
REMEMBER when the xpacks come out PLEASE REINSTALL UNHACKED GAME.......
Enjoy and have fun.....
